locFranklin "Caboose Style" Home: located on Lake Superior in Deer Park (Upper Peninsula) Michigan, 18 miles east of Grand Marais (Pictured Rocks Lakeshore), 30 miles north of Newberry and 1 hour from beautiful Tahquamenon Falls on a paved and plowed road H-37 (county rd. 407) 6 hours from Pontiac, Mich. and 1-1/2 hours from the Mackinaw Bridge. (Click for Map)

Deer Park - is uniquely situated directly on Lake Superior and directly on Muskallonge Lake. Because of its unique location 70,000 people visit the area during the summer and countless snowmobilers in the winter. Deer Park is a cottage community with 2 convenience stores here and a bar-gas station 9 miles south at Pine Stump Junction.

Possible Scenario - Wake up in the morning, sit in bed with a nice cup of "Caboose Coffee" and view Lake Superior (Gitche Gumee) in all her tempermental glory, then go agate hunting on the beach or fish the countless lakes in the area; maybe take a swim at the Muskallonge Lake beach or even in Lake Superior. Take in a spectacular sunset or sunrise. In the evening sit on the beach and view the stars or an occasional Northern Lights display. A fast paced life doesn't exist here. In winter snowmobiling is king here with 200 to 300 inches of annual snowfall. Part of the allure is the "feeling" of remoteness and Lake Superiors rugged yet beautiful shoreline. Fall colors only add to this rugged beauty.

What About The "Caboose"? - The Franklin "Caboose Style" Home is a very unique (copyrighted) design. It's basically a luxury cottage designed to look similar to a Classic Train Caboose. It has a living room w/fireplace, 1 bathroom w/2-person Jacuzzi, 2 bedrooms (1 bedroom upstairs in cupola is closed off for storage), kitchen with custom built dinette, hardwood floor in kitchen, carpet thru-out, 5 skylights, 2 ceiling fans, cathedral ceilings, 2 bay windows etc. There are accommodations to sleep 5.

The Design was inspired by a real train caboose at Crossroads Village in Flint. It was built (year 2000) proudly by the owner with help and encouragement from his father. "I'm very proud of my design, its original, very functional and its fun. The Classic Train Caboose has been around for over 150 years and I intend to help make sure this classic design is not forgotten!

Situated on 4 private wooded acres next to Muskallonge Lake State Park and on a 35’ bluff overlooking both a 3 acre pond (with stairway and walkway) and the always beautiful Lake Superior. Ownership of 200’ beach frontage just a minutes walk (approx. 500’) down from the cottage brings you access to miles of remote yet beautiful agate stone/sandy Lake Superior beach. Very few beaches offer this kind of privacy and seclusion with very little development and no high rise condos to spoil the vistas. Where else can you watch a summer sunrise and sunset on the same beach. The fury and splendor of Lake Superior are yours to experience here.
